| Suncoast Offshore Sarasota Grand Prix June 29 - July 1, 2001 Flowmaster wins first place in the Super Cat Light Outboard Class!
Flowmaster wins again! The Sarasota Suncoast Offshore Grand Prix was held in Sarasota Florida on June 28th thru July 1st. The boats were on display in the Van Wezel parking lot adjacent to the wet pits and cranes at Centennial Park. The weekend was rainy and stormy but we still had a good time. See the picture of the storm taken from a helicopter! Flowmaster ran the kilos but didn't break the old Pro-Stock record of 115.445. They'll try again when the kilos are run in St. Pete in October. The kilos are a special event to award “The Worlds Fastest Offshore Boat”. Teams must endure a rigorous test of two full speed passes through a measured kilometer, each pass within 15 minutes of the other. The purpose of two passes is to eliminate any advantage that may be gained from winds, tides and weather conditions. This was the fourth race of the 2001 schedule. Flowmaster beat Blondie (a 32 Skater) and Secret Agent (a 28 Skater). Freeze Frame Video outfitted the boat again with an onboard camera. Hopefully some of the footage will make it to Speedvision and TNN again! We hope to continue our winning streak at Cleveland next month. Todd brought some toys to the race site: his street rod and green bike. Also shown is Dan Francis' (Zipp Express) orange bike. After the race on Sunday, we celebrated with our friends from Zipp Express at a small local restaurant called Flowers. Zipp Express is a 36 Spectre from St. Louis, running in the Supercat Light Inboard class. They set a kilo record but lost a lower unit during Sunday's race. Todd and Mike would like to thank their crew for this race, Leslie Fox-Anderson, Perry and Charlotte Rohland and Erik Taber.
