| The Worlds Offshore World Championships - Key West Oct 29 - Nov 4 and Nov 16-18, 2001 Flowmaster wins second place in the World Championships Super Cat Light Outboard Class!
UPDATED 01/02 ***Key West Part 1*** Flowmaster wins the first half of the World Championships in Key West Florida on Wednesday, October 31, 2001. Flowmaster Racing put up a $5000.00 bonus to encourage twin and triple engine outboard boats to come play. The bonus must have worked as there were 3 Triple Engine boats and 4 Twin Engine boats racing! In the triple engine race, Flowmaster came in first, Snakeman second and High Risk third. In the twin engine race, Supreme Marine finished first, Cat Can Do second, No Limits third and Body Guard fourth. The race was exciting with Flowmaster and Snakeman swapping first place several times. The race had several yellow flags due to boats flipping. These yellow flagged caution laps allow slower boats to catch up with faster boats making for a tougher race for everyone. The second half of the Worlds Races were scheduled for Saturday, November 3rd and Sunday, November 4th. However, with Hurricane Michelle possibly headed for the Florida Keys, the race organizers and City of Key West changed the 4 races to all be run on Saturday, starting at 9:00am. As of our 5:00pm Friday meeting the race was on. However, as of 7:30am Saturday, the race was called and the teams were advised that if they wanted to get their boats off the island, they must leave in either the 9:00am or 10:00am police-escorted convoys off the island. Once a mandatory evacuation is ordered, no boats, trailers or high profile vehicles are allowed on the roads. So we packed up the boat, bike trailer and vehicles and headed out at 9:00am. It's kind of fun to run 55+ mph and not stop at any stop lights! You may have seen pictures of the boat convoy on The Weather Channel. We were toward the end of the first convoy. Todd stayed behind to take care of his Sea Ray as the water was too rough to bring it back home. He kept his motorcycle and 2 scooters for transportation. We kind of envy him as he got to stay for the Hurricane Parties! Todd and Mike would like to thank their crew for this race, Leslie Fox-Anderson, Erik Taber, Perry and Charlotte Rohland with assistance from Todd's friends Robin and Sandy Eubanks from Big Pine, FL ***Key West Part 2*** Mike, Leslie and Eric returned to Key West for the 2nd races. We also brought along Steve Armstrong with his new 32' Skater, "Money Shot" with triple outboards. The 2nd race was held Saturday November 18th. Flowmaster held the lead for the first 8 laps even through the caution laps that allow the slower boats to catch back up. Unfortunately, the middle engine got stuck in the trimmed up position and Flowmaster got passed by Snakeman, High Risk and Money Shot. Flowmaster won 2nd place for the Worlds with a 1st and 4th place win and Snakeman won 1st place for the Worlds with a 2nd and 1st place win. Snakeman also won the $2,500.00 prize that Flowmaster put up to encourage more outboard boats to run. Snakeman owner John Robinson turned the money back in for next year. After the awards party, everyone continued to party at Rick's on Duval Street. A very good time was had by all! Todd and Mike would like to thank their crew for this race, Leslie Fox-Anderson and Erik Taber with assistance from Robin and Sandy Eubanks.
